  • In music, a theme is the material, usually a recognizable melody, upon which part or all of a composition is based. It may be perceivable as a complete musical expression in itself, separate from the work in which it is found (Drabkin 2001).

  • Theme music is a piece that is often written specifically for a radio program, television program, video game or movie, and usually played during the title sequence and/or end credits. If it is accompanied by lyrics, most often associated with the show, it is a theme song.

  • Since Episode 6, the show has utilized an electronic music piece put together by Rok Kaiser as its official theme. Before that the show utilized classic video game intros, which moved to after the theme music when the song was added.

  • Ringtone is a 2010 Malayalam film by Ajmal starring Suresh Gopi, Bala and debutant Megha Nair.

Sounds and Society: Themes in the Sociology of Music (Music & Society)

In this pioneering new book, Dr Martin presents a lively and accessible introduction to the social analysis of music.

Dr Martin argues that musical meaning must be understood as socially constructed, rather than inherent, and that the notion of a correspondence between social and musical structures is highly problematic. An alternative approach, based on the ‘social action’ pespective is outlined, and the book concludes with a discussion of the social situation of music in advanced capitalist society. Along the way, leading thinkers are introduced: Adorno, Weber and Schntz as well as, more recently, John Shepherd and the feminist musicologists. The book draws on studies spanning the whole spectrum of Western music - rock bands to symphony orchestras, medieval plainchant to avant-garde jazz and concludes with a discussion of the social situation of music in advanced capitalist society.

Once long ago an Indian chief who had been in poor health for many moons came to the sacred Valley of the Vapors hoping to find relief in the magic waters. Seemingly, however, the thermal waters did not have sufficient power to cure his affliction

One night, as the chief lay delirious in his tent, his beautiful daughter, weeping for his pain, came to him and took him by the hand. She led him out of the valley and they followed a small stream until they reached a place where five cool, living springs burst forth from the rocky earth.

Here, the daughter filled a gourd and held it to her father's lips. When he had drunk the cool, refreshing water, he fell into a deep, restful sleep. When the old man awoke, his pain was gone and he was cured of the affliction.

Out of gratitude to his lovely daughter, the chief, as is the custom in Native American culture when a young person performs a memorable act, gave her a new name, Chewaukla, which meant "Sleepy Water," and the springs were known thereafter as Chewaukla Springs.

*Note: To this day people go to this place and sit or hike along its water and listen to its sounds and let its waters cool and refresh them. I can't say that we have been cured of anything but it seems like time does stand still while we are there.
